Sandwich platter ideas start with the guest list. Give kids simple fillings in quarters and grown-ups any fillings from the menu in halves, one sandwich per guest. At Monty’s Sandwich Shop in Bondi Junction, Sydney, Kids platters start at $100.00 for 10, $10.00 per child, and adult platters at $145.00 for 10, $14.50 per person.
Below you’ll find ideas by occasion, how to mix fillings, how many to order, how long a platter can sit out and how to order from 52 Spring Street.
Sandwich platter ideas for kids
Keep the fillings familiar and the pieces small. That’s the whole brief for a kids platter, and it’s how our Kids platters are put together.
- One sandwich per child. A Kids platter for 10 has 10 sandwiches, so nobody misses out.
- Cut in quarters. Each sandwich comes in four pieces, small enough for little hands, with no slicing to do before the party.
- Simple fillings. Ham and cheese, cheese and tomato, double cheese, egg salad and chicken salad. Nothing spicy.
- Feed the grown-ups. Parents who stay get hungry too, so add a platter for them.
- Ask about allergies early. Check with parents when you send the invites. If a child has a food allergy, call us on 0474 507 747 before you order and we’ll tell you what we can do.

Sandwich platter ideas for a party or a crowd
For a party that’s mostly grown-ups, choose any fillings from the menu and plan one sandwich or salad per person. The occasion changes the mix, not the rule.

Kids birthday parties
Order a Kids platter for the children and a platter for the grown-ups who stay. For 20 kids and 10 parents, that’s a Kids platter for 20 and a platter for 10, both ordered online.
First birthday catering
For first birthday catering, count the grown-ups first. If most guests are family and friends rather than toddlers, a platter for 15 or 20 does the heavy lifting. Add a Kids platter for 10 if older cousins are coming.
Baby showers
Platters can be sandwiches or salads, and the sandwiches come cut in halves. Guests can help themselves between the gifts and the games.
Family lunch at home
A platter for 10 feeds 10. Order online, pick up from 52 Spring Street, and there’s nothing to cook when you get home. Not hosting this time? Our guide to lunch in Bondi Junction covers eating in at the shop.
25 guests or more
Up to 20 people, order online. For 25 grown-ups or more, get a quote and we’ll plan the platters, the fillings and the timing with you.
Kids platters are different, with every size from 10 to 40 online. For office lunches and events, see all our catering options.
How do you mix fillings on a sandwich platter?
Split the guest list by age, then spread the fillings so everyone finds one they like.
| Who’s eating | Platter | Cut | Fillings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kids | Kids platter | Quarters | Ham and cheese, cheese and tomato, double cheese, egg salad, chicken salad |
| Grown-ups | Platter of sandwiches or salads | Halves | Any fillings from the menu |
For grown-ups, choose any fillings from our menu. On a platter for 10, picking five fillings, two of each, gives everyone a choice. Try the Chicken & Pancetta, Coronation Chicken, Roast Beef & Horseradish, Tuna Mayo and Veggie Reuben sandwiches.
Kids platters come with the five fillings above, so the question is the spread. A Kids platter for 20 is 20 sandwiches cut in quarters, or 80 pieces. Spread evenly, that’s four sandwiches of each filling, or 16 quarters each.

Know your crowd? If half the class only eats cheese, call or WhatsApp us on 0474 507 747 before you order and we’ll see what the kitchen can do.
How many sandwiches per person for a party?
One per person. Our platters are built that way, so a platter for 10 feeds 10 grown-ups and a Kids platter for 10 feeds 10 kids, four quarters each.
When your numbers fall between sizes, we’d round up to the next platter. Twelve kids means a Kids platter for 15, and 17 grown-ups means a platter for 20.
| Party | Guests | What to order |
|---|---|---|
| Kids birthday | 20 kids, 10 grown-ups | Kids platter for 20 and a platter for 10 |
| First birthday | 8 kids, 20 grown-ups | Kids platter for 10 and a platter for 20 |
| Baby shower | 15 guests | Platter for 15 |
| Family lunch | 10 guests | Platter for 10 |
| Big family gathering | 30 grown-ups | Get a quote |

How long can sandwiches sit out at a party?
Up to four hours in total, and only sandwiches out for under two hours can go back in the fridge. That’s the 2-hour/4-hour rule from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
FSANZ wrote it for food businesses handling what it calls potentially hazardous food. It’s a sensible clock to borrow at home, and we’d follow it for any sandwich platter.
The rule counts the total time food spends between 5°C and 60°C. Prep, storage, transport and time on the table all add up.
- Under 2 hours. Serve it, or put it back in the fridge for later.
- 2 to 4 hours. Serve it, but don’t put it back in the fridge.
- Over 4 hours. Throw it out.

Three habits keep a party table inside the rule.
- Fridge first. The trip home from 52 Spring Street counts, so put platters in the fridge as soon as you’re in.
- One platter at a time. Ordered two? Bring out one and keep the other in the fridge at 5°C or colder until the first is nearly gone.
- Set a timer. Start it when the platters come out. Kids parties have a way of swallowing an afternoon.
