Office lunch ideas start with the occasion. Sandwich halves suit a working meeting, a seated welcome lunch can take salads, and a farewell needs food people can hold. At Monty’s Sandwich Shop, 52 Spring Street, Bondi Junction, a platter for 10 is $145.00, $14.50 per person, one sandwich or salad each. Order by 4pm the day before.

These team lunch ideas pair five office occasions with a platter and a mix. There’s also a checklist to send the team, and the steps for ordering from our shop in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Sizes and prices are on our office lunch catering page too.

Office lunch ideas by occasion

Match the platter to how people will eat, whether that’s seated, standing or in the middle of a meeting. These office catering ideas cover five occasions, each with an example platter and a suggested mix of sandwiches and salads.

Sizes are examples, so swap in the platter that fits your headcount. The mix is our suggestion, not a rule, and the team’s replies decide the final order.

Occasion Platter Suggested mix Why it works
Team meeting Platter for 10 8 sandwiches, 2 salads Halves are easy to eat mid-agenda
Welcome lunch Platter for 10 7 sandwiches, 3 salads Everyone’s seated, so salads work
Farewell lunch Platter for 20 20 sandwiches Easy to hold while people stand
Staff appreciation Platter for 20 Each person’s pick The choice is the thank-you
Training day Platter for 15 10 sandwiches, 5 salads Seated at tables, with a set break

Our suggestion, not a rule. Your team's replies decide the order.

Team meeting lunch

Go mostly sandwiches when lunch happens inside the meeting. Halves can be eaten with one hand while the agenda keeps moving, and a salad needs a fork and a clear patch of table. Keep salads for the people who ask.

For a meeting that runs every week, change the fillings each time, so this week’s platter isn’t a repeat of last week’s.

Welcome lunch for new employees

Ask the new starter for their filling before you order. It’s an easy first question, and it tells them the lunch is for them. Everyone sits down for a welcome, so mix in salads, about a third of the platter.

Farewell lunch for a colleague

Let the person leaving choose the fillings, or ask a teammate what they always order. If there are speeches, people tend to stand, so go with sandwiches they can hold in one hand. Order as soon as the date is set.

Staff appreciation lunch

Make the choice part of the thank-you. Send the checklist, let everyone pick any filling from the menu, and order what comes back. One person wants the Turkey & Brie Sandwich with Cranberry, another the Irish Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich, and that’s the point.

Training day lunch

A training day runs on a fixed break, so choose a pickup time at checkout that has lunch on the table just before it. People are already at tables, which suits a mix of sandwiches and salads.

What to order for office lunch

Order one sandwich or salad per person, on the platter that matches your headcount. Each platter is sandwiches or salads, you can choose any fillings from the menu, and sandwiches come cut in halves.

The mix is where it gets practical. Seated at a table, about a third salads works. Standing, or eating mid-meeting, lean on sandwiches, because salads need a plate and a seat.

Give the team a short list, not the whole menu, and replies come back faster. Start with the Chicken & Pancetta Sandwich, the Roast Beef & Horseradish Sandwich, the Cheese Salad Sandwich with Piccalilli and the Coronation Chicken & Avocado Salad.

Salads on the menu also include the Greek Salad with Feta & Olives, the Chargrilled Eggplant & Feta Salad and the Roast Beef & Slaw Salad. Anyone who wants something else can pick from the full menu.

How do you ask the team about dietary requirements?

Send a short checklist a few days before, and ask for replies by midday the day before. That leaves you time to order by 4pm the day before.

The allergen list comes from Food Standards Australia New Zealand, which sets the names food labels have to use. We’ve turned it into a checklist for you, the organiser. It isn’t a label, and it isn’t a promise about any filling.

Copy this into an email or a team chat.

Tree nuts count one by one on labels. They’re almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pistachio, pine nut and walnut, so ask people to say which.

When the replies are in, you have your order. Choose any fillings from the menu, so each pick can go onto the platter.

Tell us what your team needs before you order. Call or WhatsApp us on 0474 507 747 and we’ll go through the menu with you.

If someone ticks an allergen, put them in touch with us directly. They know which questions to ask, and they’ll hear the answers first-hand.

How many platters do you need?

One, for a team of 10, 15 or 20, because each platter feeds the number in its name. A platter for 10 has 10 sandwiches or salads, one per person, and the price per person drops as the platter grows.

Platter Price Per person Order
Platter for 10 $145.00 $14.50 per person Order online
Platter for 15 $215.00 $14.33 per person Order online
Platter for 20 $284.00 $14.20 per person Order online

Between sizes, round up. The bigger platter costs less per person, and spare halves rarely last long in an office kitchen. Up to 20 people, order online. 25 or more, get a quote.

For bigger groups, our guide to how many sandwiches per person goes into more detail.

Fewer than 10 people?

Platters start at 10. For a smaller team, order sandwiches online from the menu instead. They’re ready from 15 minutes after you order, for pickup at 52 Spring Street.

A Tuna Mayo Sandwich is $12.05, a Chicken & Pancetta Sandwich is $15.05 and salads are from $11.95. Every sandwich on the menu is made on bread baked here this morning.

How far ahead do you need to order?

Order by 4pm the day before. Platters need 15 hours, so they can’t be made same day, which makes a Thursday lunch a Wednesday order.

You can order up to 14 days ahead. When a farewell or a training day has a date, order it then and it’s off your list.

Pay online, pick up in store. Choose your pickup time at checkout, then come to the counter at 52 Spring Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022. Set it close to when lunch starts, so the platter goes from our counter to your table.

We’re open Monday to Friday 6:30am to 4pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm, and closed on Sunday.

Lunch every week?

You can order online as often as you like, as long as you order by 4pm the day before each time. If your business needs sandwiches on a regular basis, see our regular supply for businesses.

Meeting lunch ideas for when clients visit

Plan the lunch around the meeting, and count the visitors in your numbers. Ask whoever invited them to send the checklist a few days ahead. Set the pickup time so the platter is on the table before anyone arrives.

If you don’t know the visitors’ tastes, leave the Pastrami Sandwich with Jalapeños for the team lunch. For a bigger meeting, a launch or a lunch with guests, see our catering for client meetings and events.

Get the office lunch sorted

Send the checklist, choose the platter and order by 4pm the day before. Up to 20 people, order online. 25 or more, get a quote and we’ll plan the platters with you.
